In Memory of  Janet Louise Gibson

Jan was my cousin AND an inspiration to me! She was such a talented artist, and did so many creative things in her life, traveled, stood up for what she believed in and was always there when I needed her, along with Gibby. Truly, a life well lived. She will be forever loved and missed.

JANET LOUISE PFOHL GIBSON I grieve her loss. She left us not suddenly yet peacefully one Saturday afternoon this last May around dinner time. Janet and I were companions in our early days. We had other siblings; John, Clayton, and Marjorie but they were all older. Janet and I were the closest in age. I was just 15 and a half months older. We enjoyed a happy childhood. We shared a loving, hardworking family. We all fit in a small cottage on a gravel road named Revere Dr. with few city services, in Highland-on-the-Lake. Ours was a countryfied setting near Lake Erie, the Eighteen Mile Creek. There were woods and meadows, paths and birds and butterflies behind our house. We shared our gang of neighborhood friends, both boys and girls. We dressed up for Halloween and tricks or treats. We visited Grammas and Grampas and cousins including annual trips to Cheboygan, Michigan. We shared going to school with our friends waiting for the school bus at the end of the road in rain and snow and sunshine too. We graduated Lake Shore Central High School together in 1958. Those were the early years - long gone but warmly remembered. Janet was as beautiful as she was talented. She performed in Ballets, she was well known as an artist, she was a travel agent, an activities director, a workshop instructor, she help staff and run a cooperative art gallery. she designed and sold garments and participated in fashion shows. She held a degree in Fine Arts from Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. She was an active member of her community. She also traveled a good bit in the U.S. and Europe with family and friends. Her accomplishments were many but none greater than wife and mother. Her marriage of 63 years to husband Leslie Gibson, a boy from Lakeview, was a strong and loving partnership. They created a beautiful family together with a daughter and son and cherished grandsons and great-grandchildren. I grieve the loss of Janet and Leslie while also realizing how privileged I was to have them in my life and count them among my most loved family and friends,
