ROSS – George Robert Jr. “Big G”

October 21, 2023 of Angola NY, formerly of Cheektowaga, NY. Beloved Father of Sean F. (Barbara) and Alan J. (Mary) Ross. Step Dad of James and Paul Paprocki. Grandfather of Micheil, Nick and Freddy Ross. Husband of the late Bonnie Ross.  Longtime friend and devoted companion of Sue Netzel.  Son of the late George R. Ross Sr. and Maida “Peggy” Ewing. Dearest Brother of Georgette Ross and the late Helen Bush and Kathleen Bates.  Loved and cherished by many friends and relatives. George dedicated his life to community service. He was a 12 year member of the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company. He also coached Little League and Tee Ball for 25 years in Cheektowaga.  He was a Cubmaster (Pack 54) for 10 years and an Assistant Scoutmaster for 4 years. George was a US Army Veteran who proudly served his country in Vietnam (1968-1970) He served in the 716th Military Police Company A.  He retired as a Staff Sergeant after serving an additional 12 years in the Army Reserves.  George was an originating Board Member of the Cheektowaga Patriotic Commission and one of his poems is inscribed on the Veterans Memorial in the Cheektowaga Town Park.  He was known for years as the Flagman of Cheektowaga where he displayed thousands of flags at his various residences.  George also was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He retired from the Town of Cheektowaga where he worked for both the Sewer and Highway Departments for 37 Years.  In George’s Memory, donations may be made to Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company, Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight or a charity of your choice.  A Grave Side Service will be held Friday at 10:00 AM in Mt.
